THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR

THREE SIMPLE WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR

It seems like no matter what you do, your hair will never stop breaking or drying up. It also feels like the harsh weather conditions of your environment can contribute to this problem. Looking at TV ads, getting the hair healthy and sleek like the ones on the screen might be expensive. However, applying products is not the only way to protect your hair from all the elements that are against your hair, there are simple ways to do so.

These three simple steps can give great results when followed correctly.

  • Washing your Hair: Grimy and smelly hair is definitely a no-no for hair maintenance, but going about the washing of your hair incorrectly can be one of the reasons the hair is breaking and drying up in the first place. So try to observe the following steps when thinking about washing your hair.
  1. Avoid washing your hair daily: Washing your hair daily with water and other hair products is a sure way of stripping away the natural oil being produced for the hair by the scalp. These oils are meant to keep the hair lubricated and protected, so when these oils are washed due to constant washing, the hair becomes dry. Dry hair can spur the scalp into producing oil excessively, hence the over greasy appearance of the hair.

  2. Natural treatments: When you can’t afford hair friendly products, it is always advisable to try natural hair protection methods. For example, egg treatment. If you have dry or brittle hair, use egg whites or half a cup of an egg mixture to moisturize your hair. Apply it after washing away the shampoo, leave it for twenty minutes and then rinse with cool water. It gives the hair the necessary protein it needs.

Baking Soda therapy can help remove excess shampoo and styling products from the hair. Make a solution of 3 tablespoons of baking soda and water, apply to the hair and leave for three to five minutes before rinsing it off. Also, generally, make sure to avoid hot water for the hair, lukewarm water is always better. Hot water will strip off all your hair’s protective oils.
  1. Apply Shampoo and Conditioner gently: Rough application of shampoos and conditioners can damage the scalp and hair. So, before using them, wet the hair first, then apply some shampoo to the tips of your fingers, then rub it in gently. Wash from to tip as softly as possible. The Shampoo will wash out the dirt and built up oils by itself. Be sure to have an anti-dandruff shampoo, if you have dandruff. After rinsing, apply the Conditioner only at the tip and middle, try not to put it on the scalp. Leave the Conditioner for a couple of minutes before you use cold water to rinse it off.

  2. Let your hair air dry: Using a blow-dryer or toweling the air can be faster ways of getting the hair dry, especially when you are always in a hurry. Try to avoid using them frequently and rather let the air dry by itself.  You can also get softer fabrics for drying the hair if air drying gets too slow for you.
  • Styling your Hair: Brushing, Heating, Oiling, and Creaming.
  1. Your Hairbrush: Choose the hairbrush suitable for your hair type. Boar hair brushes for thick and long hair, nylon hair brushes for medium hair, plastic brushes for all hair types, small combs for short thin hair, and wide combs for short thick hair. Do not brush your hair while it is still wet because the hair becomes more susceptible to damage while wet. Reduce the number of times you brush in a day and brush the hair gently. Also, remember to wash your hairbrush regularly.
  2. Use Suitable Hair Ties: When you have to put up your hair frequently, make sure you get a hair tie that will not break your hair or cause knots. Some hair ties tend to cause split ends and break the hair. Wear the hair loosely when putting it up, because a tight wrapping can allow the hair tie to damage the hair.
  1. Heat Styling: Try not to make it a constant habit because constant heat will damage the hair. So before using any heating equipment, like blow dryers, straightener, and curlers, apply a heat-protectant spray on your hair. It will help take the brunt of the heat the equipment will give. Remember, if your hair is already damaged, try to avoid heating tools.
  1. Oiling and Creaming: This is necessary especially if you have dandruff and dry hair. Get ones with enough mint in it as they can help battle dandruff.
  • Maintaining Protection
  1. Don’t play with your hair, get your hair trimmed regularly if you are prone to split ends, avoid frequent dying and tinting, drink lots of water and eat fruits, try to stay indoors when the weather condition is not too friendly or use a hat, always wear shower caps when going swimming.

Protecting the hair is an easy task when you don’t have to keep spending money to make it healthier. So, before you give up on your hair, consider taking care of it by following the advice above.
